Leaving Home

Journal Entry # 96 November 23, 2073

It’s been several months since I left home. The four times me and my family moved when I was a kid did nothing to prepare me for this one.

I don’t think anyone was ready for this one.

When we realized what was happening, it was already too late. There was no other option but to pack up, bring everything needed to create a semblance of the life we knew on Earth, and leave for the vastness of outer space.

Empezar.  “To start” in Spanish. The name embodies the direction each citizen and each ship aims to accomplish. To find a way to fix the Earth, to return and start anew–we all clung to that hope. It is the hope the Strekan society was built on.

Anyone who thought a few months in space was all it would take to fix the Earth was sorely mistaken. Teething problems, some say. It’s not like we’re all old hands to this space colony thing.

I’m starting to think that I’ll be spending much longer here in Empezar A14 than I originally expected.
